  • How Greek students rank internationally

PISA is an exam taken internationally by 15 year olds. They produce a report which is released every three years. Steve Sailer, who writes up an excellent blog at the Unz Review, compiled the list below.

The top five is constituted mostly by Chinese people. The great majority of Singaporeans are of Chinese descent. And the largest portion of US Asians are also Chinese.

ATM, Greece ranks below the OECD average.

Not sure how much stock you can take in this. Israel who is known for their tech companies is only a few spots ahead.

Israel's figures may include many Palestinians.

Israel has the highest above-average variation when it comes to reading performance. They're that outlier dotted all the way to the right of the graph above. I think Reaper was on to something.

I think around 17% of Israel is muslim and of that group, only around 60% graduate:

This might explain the discrepancy better:

              http://www.unz.com/akarlin/thulean-friend-on-israels-prospects/

Turns out that a large part of their success comes from a tiny population. This would support the ‘smart fraction theory’.It is this group, together with academic researchers and physicians, who are emigrating in increasing quantities.

Israel's PISA score doesn't even include the Haredim (ultra-Orthodox).

BBC asks, why do Estonian students perform so well?

                https://www.bbc.com/news/education-50590581

Estonia gradually introduces formal learning from a young age. They track a child's progress starting from three years of age, sometimes from even younger, and by the time the child starts compulsory school, they have reports which identify weaknesses and describe how far along they have come in their development. Significantly, the child performs no tests in the making of this report, so they're probably getting a more accurate picture of the child's learning development. Teachers have a lot of freedom to design lessons too and are highly valued. Also, once compulsory starts, there is a lot of emphasis on their children to study and do a lot of homework (arguably too much homework). The children only partake in compulsory education from ages 7-16. They graduate at a very young age, so I'm guessing they push their children to take on more difficult subjects and more study materials from younger ages, which is probably why they have to study so much.
