Arsenal beat City to reach the FA Cup final where they face Chelsea. Arteta has proven to be an inspired hiring. Luiz was dreadful the last time they played City, but he has found his confidence again. Both Mustafi and David Luiz were excellent. Sokratis these days has lost a step, so it's no real wonder that Mustafi and Holding are ahead of the pecking order. Tactically, Sokratis against bruisers like Deeney. At the moment he is the odd man out, but I'd love to see him hit another gear under Arteta even if he continues from a more reserved role.

Arsenal made easy work of Watford. They were running away with an early 3-goal lead, but Watford came back to finish the game strong with a more respectable 3-2 loss. Watford needed to win to stay in the EPL. The loss means they're now relegated.

Sokratis didn't feature, not even after the half when Arsenal held a good 3-1 lead and only needed to close out the game. Arsenal actually have a number of CBs out. Mustafi, Mari, and Chambers are all out hurt. This would have been a good game for him. Deeney is exactly the kind of player Sokratis excels against. I can't imagine Sokratis will feature much going forward. He may be lucky to find himself on the bench truth be told. In fact Ozil doesn't even make the 18-man list these days. If Sokratis remains next season and finishes out his contract, he will have to work very hard under Arteta and learn to improve as a footballer if he still harbors any serious ambitions. I still think he has another chapter to write in his career, but next season will be hard for him without regular game time.

He might get the odd game in if he chooses to stay, but it's evident he will be lucky to make the team sheet on most match days. If he's staying, there's a chance he can grow and improve a bit more as a player under Arteta, but when that contract is up he's very likely to end up elsewhere. Let's hope he keeps his eyes on the EPL, Series A, or Bundesliga because he's still capable of competing at those levels when his contract expires.
Greece stalwart Sokratis has not made a Premier League appearance since March and has played a solitary minute of FA Cup football since Arsenal returned to action last month.

His limitations on the ball notwithstanding, he's a much better defender than he's credited. He's a marauding, physically daunting player to go against. He's remarkably dependable, rarely out injured, and he can have big moments, even big goals, when things are on the line. He can be a proper cunt too, but unlike Materazzi or Ramos, he doesn't need to take cheap shots. I think his biggest problem, at least as it relates to performing well in the EPL, is that his acceleration isn't what it used to be and for a player who relies on very physical qualities in his game, that creates a challenge for him. Luiz has the same problem, and is defensively not as strong as Sokratis, but Luiz is good enough to play in the midfield. He can score directly from free-kicks even. He needs a partner in defense who can quickly cover ground and ATM Sokratis doesn't have the acceleration of players like Mustafi or Holding.

We'll have to see what kind of progress our other CBs make, but Sokratis, even as a bench player at Arsenal, could be play role for Greece, even if he's just a squad man. It's a luxury to have players like him in reserve and he may prove crucial or find a second wind given certain circumstances.

In any case, Arsenal take on Chelsea today. At the very least he'll be on the 18-man list and could very well feature in the game.

He came on for Luiz in the closing minutes of Arsenal's FA Cup final win over Chelsea. Arsenal had a man advantage after Aubameyang made it two and Chelsea suffered a spat of injuries that took Azpilicueta, their captain, and Pulisic, the man who scored Chelsea's only goal, out of the game.

Arteta didn't have to sub Sokratis on. It was a nice gesture by the manager more than anything perhaps. Talk about walking away into the sunset, this could be his last rodeo at the club. Arsenal are looking to make a number of sales this summer and he's among those looking to be sold, but as of date he has made it his intent to stay on.

First and only Greek thus far to win the FA Cup.

Sokratis to Napoli? It's being discussed as a possibility.

It would appear that Sokratis has signed for Napoli.

This will be a good move for him, as Serie A is a league he knows well, he's fluent in Italian, and it's a slower pace.

At the very least, he will get game time.

It's not official yet. Napoli are still haggling Arsenal on the price, but before the window is closed I believe Arsenal will let him join Napoli. They have no reason to keep Sokratis at his wages training with the u23 team.

Apparently PSG were willing to sign him on a free. Tuchel had worked with Sokratis at Dortmund. Arsenal decided to keep him as cover.
