  • Revolution? Civil War? Peaceful dissolution?

The Washington Post had an article up recently titled:

Are we on the brink of revolution?

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlo...nk-revolution/

Revolutions do not necessarily erupt at the moment when people are most oppressed. Rather, revolutions have more often been the result of "rising expectations." Periods of progress followed by crushed hopes can be especially dangerous, leading to rage and violence.
revolutions are a response to a downturn in the economy after a significant period of growth that allows individuals to envision a more promising future. A population subjected to unmitigated poverty and oppression cannot imagine a better alternative, and consequently, is unlikely to revolt. However, as life begins to improve and a happier life is conceivable, a sudden reversal of fortune can seem unbearable and trigger revolutionary activity.
Anyone care to share their thoughts?

I don't naturally link modern revolutions with economics - although that is a favorite habit of the left. Most revolutions I have seen have come from direct outside influence. For example these few:

Serbian revolution - after NATO ensured the breakup of Yugoslavia.
Syrian revolution - armed jihadists flooding into the country from Turkey and pretending to be Syrian 'protesters.'
Greek revolution in the 70's - resulted from the Turkish invasion of Cyprus.
Libyan revolution - NATO bombing of Libya and removal of Gaddafi.

And then - to have a revolution where this is not the case - you need an authoritarian government in place - which the USA does not have.

I think 8 years of obama got a very big portion of today's population to think purely in the sense of we can only govern with leftist think. Then trump comes along and the other half made their voices heard. Ever since then, the left has been scarred and has used any situation that is "morally reprehensible" to highlight Trump's policies/lack thereof.

George Floyd's death was less so about the death of George Floyd but it was a gateway for marxist thought to be further engraved in the US. I find it very interesting that for every black man that is wrongfully killed by police, corporate America, and other's use it as a means to pump more and more funds into "racial equality" organizations.

These companies have essentially forfeited public relations with a lot of people in America to virtue signal.

Now we see a multi-pronged attack by corporate America, social media "fact checking" and shutting down opinions that don't fit narrative, and re-education and re-writing of history by tearing down statues and rethinking what police do.

I think going forward we are sadly going to see a further degeneration of what makes the west - the west and really the only way we will come out of it is through a culture war.

I don't know if we will ever see a civil war per se, but I can say that if we ever get to the point where police forces are stripped of their firearms (UK like) then people will be going out in droves to buy weapons.

Minneapolis is going to be an interesting case study for this - and I think if Biden runs on the "defund the police" platform - he's going to lose badly

To achieve a better outcome, the world must act jointly and swiftly to revamp all aspects of our societies and economies, from education to social contracts and working conditions. Every country, from the United States to China, must participate, and every industry, from oil and gas to tech, must be transformed. In short, we need a “Great Reset” of capitalism.
In short, the abolition of capitalism and freedom as we know it. And this is from the Davos group. Sounds to me the only thing they are revamping is the sickle and hammer.
The changes we have already seen in response to COVID-19 prove that a reset of our economic and social foundations is possible. Professor Klaus Schwab outlines how to achieve it.

Pandemic drives broadest economic collapse in 150 years: World Bank

          https://news.yahoo.com/pandemic-driv...155001729.html

has caused the broadest collapse of the global economy since 1870 despite unprecedented government support, the World Bank said Monday.
The depth of the crisis will drive 70 to 100 million people into extreme poverty -- worse than the prior estimate of 60 million, she told reporters.
And this is the big headline:

A Crash in the Dollar Is Coming

          https://finance.yahoo.com/news/crash...210024166.html

The era of the U.S. dollar’s “exorbitant privilege” as the world’s primary reserve currency is coming to an end.
The seeds of this problem were sown by a profound shortfall in domestic U.S. savings that was glaringly apparent before the pandemic.
Well I said for some time now that both Trump and Obama have failed to safeguard the US economy. Too much spending on someone's else future dollar has gotten us here.

Ironically they cite Trump's presidency as the spark for the decline. I'd say the decline was sparked when Bush launched his invasions of the Middle East.

Be prepared for a dollar crash?

            https://www.zerohedge.com/economics/...s-dollar-crash

The unprecedented Federal Reserve money printing and the massive borrowing and spending binge by the US government in response to COVID-19 have only accelerated the process. In March, Peter said during his podcast, “I think we’re very, very close to a major collapse of the dollar, a major breakout in the price of gold, to a breakdown in the bond market.”
Peter [Schiff] was even more emphatic about this threat. “We’re going to have a lot of unemployed people who are going to be paying a lot more money for basic necessities. So, this is going to be stagflation, only the stagnation part is really depression and the inflation can even potentially be hyperinflation.”

Second, [Yale economist Stephen] Roach said theUS trade deficit will likely soar even higher, “effectively taxing beleaguered US consumers.”

And finally, Roach asks a key question: “In the face of Washington’s poorly timed wish for financial decoupling from China, who will fund the saving deficit of a nation that has finally lost its exorbitant privilege?”

He then spoke about the former high-ranking military officials who criticized Trump for how aggressively he responded last week to protests over George Floyd’s death, using the National Guard to force peaceful demonstrators from outside the White House.

"I am absolutely convinced they will escort him from the White House with great dispatch," Biden said if Trump loses the election and refuses to leave.
Joe Biden warned Wednesday night that President Donald Trump may try to steal the presidential election.

                  i believe the HYPERinflation part

the 1% will become the 0.1%

                  invest in real estate

they can borrow all they want, when they don't have to pay it back, what will the outcome be?

We are without a doubt heading towards the biggest recession of our lifetimes. That much I think is true. I think high levels of inflation (potentially hyperinflation) and stagflation will follow quickly enough. How bad it gets beyond that I can't say, but things could get really bad and there may come a point where we'll have to brace for the worst.

If you print continues without controls, the outcome will eventually be high inflation with a collapsed dollar. This has happened every time when a Empire example Roman/Greek/, or just ordinary countries in resent times.

Also lets not forget they're buying tons of junk bonds in the market....that totally goes against a capitalist free market for reasons I'm sure you're aware.

IMO we have created a double edged sword here that will undoubtedly show its effects over time, and all negative cant see positives here.

One factor that might play in is....the whole industrial world is running the same course. That said, in theory things can get bad, but worse around the globe...so hence that might give the US and other strong economies to find better opportunities and stay above the rest.

I agree about the reasoning. But. The fact that the world stopped turning for 3 months with minimal impact should be enough to make you start asking the right questions. They’ve pumped so much money into the system that I believe there are better chances to see hyper rich than a recession. Recessions are a term reserved for the 20th century. Now, they just print money, soon they will just distribute digital currency. Hyper inflation I agree. That will be the driver to create a new class of elites. Strap on your seatbelts. We’re going to go for a ride.

Yes, this I agree. There will be a bigger gap created from rich to poor, lets see what happens to the middle class.

And that gap will only exasperate tensions further. I don't think paper cash will disappear, but I expect cash to be limited though. Even if it did, people will find something else to barter (services/goods) in lieu of cash in order to get around excess taxes.

We have been debating basic income and negative interest rates for years. The era has arrived. I never anticipated it would happen this quickly, the fact is we are in a state that we can’t comprehend. Just remember there are architects behind this whole experience that designed it. I expect the world to change quickly. Faster than most can fathom. Opportunities rose. They are using them to execute the plan, some will move forward, many will stay behind. There is more coming in the pipeline. AI. Automation. The relations with China will sour. Another Cold War? A new world order? History is recording and broadcasting LIVE. My prediction is the world will change so much in the next 5 years that most will get whiplash.
