Once again - Greece helps Erdogan and the Turkish myth.

Yet again, Erdogan says something and does what he says. People acting like this wasn't going to happen haven't been paying attention.

I'm not surprised by this in the slightest, and really Erdogan would only think twice about this unless Putin or Trump threatened to inflict economic sanctions on Turkey, which clearly they did not. For a guy who claims his country is the leader of orthodox Christianity or a guy who pleads to conservatives that are usually Christian, it's pretty clear neither leader cares. It's a facade being put up for a variety of reasons.

As far as I can tell, Agia Sofia was lost many years ago, and today's decision further cemented what we already knew. Unless Agia Sofia returns to Greek hands and becomes a Christian church, it will never appear in my eyes as what it was meant to be.

This situation will show whether Greek leadership has any stones. If there was any glimmer of hope (there should never have been) that Turkey can be reigned in, it obviously can't. The Greek politicians that preach dialogue with turkey is necessary, well there can't be a dialogue with people who seek to destroy you.

Immediate steps should be taken to ensure that Ataturk's house in Thessaloniki be transformed into a genocide memorial museum, which can be jointly run with Armenians and Assyrians. We must now take this opportunity to finally create an entirely new dogma in terms of how we approach Turkey. Going forward, there should be no hope for reconciliation with Turkey. For every map they put out, we should put out a counter map. For every newspaper article they publish, we do exactly the same. We need to start controlling the narrative and we need to start making gigantic leaps in securing EEZ agreements, with Cyprus, Egypt, and Libya.

Send a task force to team up with Egypt or offer forces to Haftar. We cannot stand back any longer.

Minister of Rural Development Makis Voridis spoke about Erdogan's "miserable decision" for Hagia Sophia, which marks the change of course and attitude of Turkey.

Asked about the type of answers that should be given by the Greek side, Mr. Voridis commented that one of the things that can be done immediately and would be an "extremely symbolic" move, has to do with the museum of Kemal Ataturk in Thessaloniki and its transformation into a museum commemorating the Genocide of Hellenism.

"I think it can and should be done immediately," he said.

The international policy of "open channels" with Turkey should also be reviewed. The international community needs to realize that Turkey is a threat to international stability, and that it needs to send messages from the West, even at the economic level, in order to bear the consequences of its reorganization.

"We need to make it clear to the West that Erdogan is becoming 'absolutely out of control' and that Western countries will find it in front of them at some point," he said.

I can only hope that Greek politicians (probably dreaming) realize that no amount of dialogue will fix our issues with Turkey. I know Greece tried the whole "we want peace and stability and a good relationship Turkey" but that hasn't worked. In 2020, no one can say that Greece has benefited from an approach where we never raise any issue with Turkey.

Force is the only thing Turks understand and I think Greece needs to teach the west what it means to hold Turkey accountable.

At least we tried and they chose this path, which puts us in the right. Now it's time to send our men into dangers way, to be bold, and get the rest of the free world on our page. Erdogan doesn't need to be toppled, but his ambitions need to be restrained and contained while his economy left to bleed. I don't think it will be enough to push him out of office, but I think it will be enough keep him on a leash.

I think Russia could get a chance here to get on with the West for a change. They tried before by letting the West make a mess of Libya, but that was when Hillary was head of the State Department and she decided to still pursue regime change in Russia despite "the reset." With Trump still in office, maybe he can turn this into a new rapprochement with Russia. I'd like to believe it, but that would require that Trump betray Erdogan and that he stand up against the Washington establishment despite their cries of wolf.
