They continue antagonize Russia too much. I'm in favor of Russian containment, but there needs to be rapprochement too.

Speaking of which, the UAE has normalized relations with Israel. Of the "Arabs" only Jordan and Egypt share such ties with Israel, so this is big. I imagine more countries are to follow. Palestine has framed this as an act of treason. Erdogan has condemned the move and is now considering whether to suspend ties with the UAE. We could see a real split in the Middle East.

The EU Foreign Ministers meeting decided to sanction Belarus but refused to even make a statement concerning turkey and Greece and Cyprus despite being high on the agenda.

The Germans disagreed with the Greek minister that wanted the announcement of the Council to include that it welcomes the Greek-Egyptian agreement, and that it would ask from Turkey to immediately end its provocations. Germans are annoyed by the Greek-Egyptian agreement, which is 100% legit and was made in accordance to international law. They, in essence, agree with Erdogan..

up to this point - i'd say that mitsotaki/dendia have done well enough. they have galvanized diplomatic and military support from france and egypt, surprisingly firm israeli support, but disappointingly, a fading lukewarm variety of italian support and malta appears to be in erdogan's pocket. the fact that the usa, the uk, germany and russia are waiting for hindsight to occur - isn't all that unexpected. to galvanize more nations to speak in favor of greece, greece needs to approach majority-island nations for support. japan is one nation...indonesia is a muslim nation and will never go against another muslim nation far from any border/resource dispute or inter-religious difference.

in my opinion, the next step must be demanding and giving turkey a deadline to leave greece's eez, before any 'talks' continue. this may be called an 'escalation' by greece's fake friends, but, there is zero point in allowing this status quo of turkish military and exploration craft in greece's eez. the time to not embarrass our fake friends is long gone. make the demand and don't worry what sympathetic neutrals say.

turkey is still talking tough and bragging about it's anti-ship missiles. barely 30 years ago, greece possessed french exorcet anti-ship missiles and had a clear advantage. as mentioned, turkey closed the gap in quality and quantity of naval craft, equipment and systems the past 3 decades. let them talk tough while backing out of greece's eez.

Germany is wrong to make this a point of contention. Turkey had a "deal" with "Libya" on the table. How is it we were suppose to get into negotiations with them having a deal of this kind and us with empty hands? We finally made a deal with Egypt at the eleventh hour, Germany finds an excuse to blame us for the failings of the negotiations. Erdogon ignored Merkel for a day or so. It goes to show how much respect she commands.

It was telling enough from the start, when the Germans left us out of the first round of negotiations at the demand of the Turks.

Dendias said there will be further discussions later this month about what kind of sanctions the EU will impose on Turkey. Should anyone seriously believe the EU will do anything of the kind? The Turks will try something in September probably and we can thank our German friends for the "efforts" they have made, which have clearly only emboldened Tayyeep. He calls them Nazis left and right, he practically pisses on them, and they want us to meet him halfway.

Perhaps Erdoganomics, whereby the president mandated to "fight" high inflation with lower rates in contravention of all norms and rules of economics, will ultimately end up destroying Turkey just as so many expected.

Turkey has condemned remarks made by US Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden criticising President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and calling for support for the Turkish leader's opponents.

Biden made the comments in an interview filmed by the New York Times in December, but a video of the remarks only appeared on Saturday before going viral on social media.

I’m trying to think of a way a submarine would be able to cut the cables undetected. Greece has a few stealth submarines that the Turks have had fits trying to locate.

Pompeo met with dendias and today met with Cavusoglu. As far as I can tell, it just screams US trying to say “play nice children” and fails to really pick a side.

as far as Germany is concerned, they hate we made an agreement with Egypt because Germany believes that Greece is not a sovereign country and that it should not be making deals in ways that would affect the EU’s relations with turkey. We all knew Germany was in bed with turkey for a long time but I think this Situation has shown that Germany only cares about one thing and it certainly isn’t Greece’s sovereignty.

so long as the Turks keep on funneling money into Germany’s pockets, while also keeping Nordstream 2 viable for gas, the Germans would love to hand over the Greek islands to turkey. We have to remember that German industry sees a market or 80 million versus 11 million, and tack that on to the figures of trade between both countries and its easy to understand why Germany is saying and doing what it is.

but as “leader” of the EU, you are tasked with siding with your fellow EU member states and Germany has instilled even more euroscepticism.

greece stopped threatening to leave the EU 5 years ago, but I believe there needs to be an honest effort and discussion about why we’re in the EU, and if it would benefit us to perhaps develop the drachma (of course in secrecy) to run parallel to the euro and eventually drop out when the time is right. It sounds crazy but the EU is not going to survive long term, especially if we have member states needing help but being shunned by other EU members.

this is also not exclusive to just Germany, other members who did not want sanctions for turkey include: Spain, Italy, Malta, Hungary.

If the Turkish economy goes under Spain and Italy will be dealt a very heavy blow as these countries have a lot of debt tied up in turkey
