Υποδοχή στο αεροδρόμιο υπό συνθήκες άκρας μυστικότητας έγινε στον ισχυρό άνδρα της Λιβύης Χαλίφα Χάφταρ. Δεν προαναγγέλθηκε η άφιξη του Λίβυου στρατάρχη για λόγους ασφαλείας. Η έλευση του Χαφτάρ στην Αθήνα γίνεται μόλις δύο εικοσιτετράωρα πριν την διεθνή Διάσκεψη του Βερολίνου για τη Λιβύη, από την οποία έχουν αποκλειστεί τόσο η Ελλάδα όσο και η Κύπρος. Άγνωστο παραμένει το πρόγραμμά του αλλά πληροφορίες αναφέρουν ότι θα συναντηθεί με τον πρωθυπουργό Κυριάκο Μητσοτάκη

Το αεροσκάφος του Χάφταρ προσγειώθηκε στις 19.50. Η έλευση του Χαφτάρ στην Αθήνα γίνεται μόλις δύο εικοσιτετράωρα πριν την διεθνή Διάσκεψη του Βερολίνου για τη Λιβύη, από την οποία έχουν αποκλειστεί τόσο η Ελλάδα όσο και η Κύπρος. Ο στρατάρχης Χαφτάρ, ο οποίος αναμένεται να λάβει μέρος στη Διάσκεψη του Βερολίνου, θα φτάσει στην Αθήνα υπό συνθήκες άκρας μυστικότητας, ενώ η έλευσή του στην πρωτεύουσα δεν ανακοινώθηκε, για λόγους ασφαλείας.
Υπενθυμίζεται ότι ο στρατάρχης Χαφτάρ δεν έκρυψε την έντονη δυσαρέσκειά του για το γεγονός ότι η Ελλάδα δεν έλαβε πρόσκληση από τη Γερμανία στη Διάσκεψη του Βερολίνου για τη Λιβύη. «Ρωτάμε γιατί η Ελλάδα δεν έχει προσκληθεί στις συνομιλίες στο Βερολίνο. Μήπως δεν είναι η Ελλάδα μία από τις πιο επηρεασμένες χώρες από αυτή τη σύγκρουση;» ανέφερε σε μήνυμά του ο Λιβυκός Εθνικός Στρατός (LNA), οι δυνάμεις με επικεφαλής τον στρατάρχη Χαλίφα Χαφτάρ.

Από την άλλη πλευρά, εκπρόσωπος του GNA, που ελέγχει την κυβέρνηση της Τρίπολης και υποστηρίζεται από την Τουρκία, σχολίασε για την απουσίασα της Ελλάδας ότι «δεν έχει να προσφέρει κάτι ουσιαστικό». Νωρίτερα την Πέμπτη, ο υπουργός Εξωτερικών της Γερμανίας, Χάικο Μάας, δήλωσε ότι ο στρατάρχης Χάφταρ, διοικητής του δυνάμεων της ανατολικής Λιβύης, δεσμεύτηκε στην εφαρμογή εκεχειρίας στη χώρα.
Σε τηλεοπτική του συνέντευξη, συγκεκριμένα, ο Μάας δήλωσε για τον Χαφτάρ, μετά την αποτυχία στις συνομιλίες της Μόσχας: «Δεσμεύτηκε να συμμορφωθεί με την εκεχειρία, παρά το γεγονός ότι δεν υπέγραψε τη συμφωνία κατάπαυσης του πυρός στη Μόσχα νωρίτερα αυτήν την εβδομάδα. Είναι πολύ σημαντικό». Ο υπουργός Εξωτερικών της Γερμανίας δήλωσε ότι ο Χαφτάρ δεσμεύεται σε εκεχειρία στη χώρα, επιβεβαίωσε, ακόμη, με tweet το γερμανικό ΥΠΕΞ.

I wonder if Mitsotakis will agree to deploy troops/give arms to Haftar. I expect Haftar to ask Greece for support

If Mitsotakis does not offer logistical support - it is over, the Sea of Crete will be Turkish. This is make or break. If Greece ignores this proxy war, the war will be on actual Greek territory at some stage.

Also France wants us to get involved so they can come out openly for Haftar. this will also help break the German's hold on EU foreign policy which annoys the French deeply. They are too afraid to do it on their own. Many countries will join Haftar if Greece gets involved.

This is make or break. Mitsotakis saying he would veto any agreement made at the Berlin Conference was a great move and is using the veto power to his benefit.

Now its time to take it a step forward - if you won't invite us to a conference that very much has to do with us, then we will force ourselves there and that is by giving Haftar military backing.

This is the only way forward. Not only does it show the world you are serious, but you infuse yourself back on to the geopolitical scene.

This proxy war suits Greece. No Greek soldiers have to die - just advise in a logistical role, but we will be announcing to the world, that Crete and its sea is sovereign - not German, not Turkish - but Greek sovereign territory.

The time for words is over. Greece can't afford to lose the Sea of Crete.

Finally there is also money to be made with Libya and a Government Greece helped establish.

I think he's plenty smart, I just don't trust Greek politicians because there hasn't been a good one who's cared about Greece in a long time.

I hope he does better and I hope he breaks the unfortunate trend.

Let's see. If it is just more words - this will in fact encourage Ottoman encroaching on Greek sovereignty as it will assure the Turks that the Ottoman appeaser Dora Bakoyiannis is still in control. If Mitsotakis actually gives Haftar more than words - those in Crete and other small islands will see Greece is willing to defend them.

This is make or break.

The Turks and Germans are watching now to see what kind of country Greece is. More of the same - ie Greece continuing to lose territory while bitching about how unfair everything is. Or - a new country which defends its sovereignty - nothing more, nothing less - like any normal country would.

If Mitsotakis is too afraid to openly help Haftar and still a complete coward - at least create a clandestine Greek unit - like the Russian Wagner Group - that he can dismiss as mercenaries publicly but do the bidding of Greece in Libya.

Being smart and having the strength of character to face the prospect of war are two different things. So far Mitsotakis has signaled weakness and an unwillingness to confront Turkey. And you just need to look at the response the US and our EU partners have given to date not only to Turkey, but to Mitsotakis, in order to grasp how much deep water we're now under unless we begin to confront the Turks by force. They will not respect us nor our sovereignty if we fail to confront them.

Already Turkey has signaled a willingness to work with Russia, Germany, and even Egypt. As far as Israel is concerned, they're trying to wait out Netanyahu, who himself may come under pressure to work with the Turks anyways. If we fail to get active and challenge them, we will lose out. It's that simple and it doesn't take a lot of intelligence to figure that out.

It is.

The time for words is over. Words have damaged Hellenic sovereignty. Greece is not dealing with some intellectual challenge that requires diplomacy. Greece is dealing with the descendants of violent nomads wanting to rebuild their empire of terror. Greece must defend its borders. Greece must not sell out Greek citizens on Crete and the Dodecanese. Greece must not sell out the 100,000 of Greeks who starved to death for freedom, the 100,000s who died fighting for freedom.

This is what the EU is, and highlights the reason why the UK left. Germany trying to be top dog and selling out EU interests because Germany is beholden to Turkey and has been for over a century.

I'd like to add there is a very clear division between Germany and France and it's become very clear that Merkel's reigns on Germany, and the EU as a whole, are swiftly slipping.
