    • When you ally with al-Qaeda and Muslim Brotherhood, what can you say anymore? The United States supports evil. Thanks Trump.

      • Pulling out
Hundreds of Russian military contractors in Libya were evacuated on Monday after retreating from fighting on the capital's front lines, forces backing the unity government said. The claim comes after a series of setbacks for eastern-based military commander Khalifa Haftar's year-long offensive to seize Tripoli from the UN-supported Government of National Accord (GNA). "An Antonov 32 military cargo plane landed at Bani Walid airport to resume the evacuation of Wagner [Group] mercenaries who had fled southern Tripoli to an as-yet unconfirmed destination," pro-GNA forces wrote on Twitter. • It seems Haftar has brought some control back but the Turks have definitely staked their claim to Libya.

The make or break moment for me was when the Turks and their child jihadis failed to take Al Watiya the first time. Haftar's men stormed their positions and chased them to the Tunisian border. Haftar then should have given extra troops to secure the Tunisian border but he didn't. The Turks regrouped and managed to take the base and most of Western Libya on the third attempt.

Haftar is quite Greek in the way he believes being defensive against Turks is the way to go.

Syria, Libya, Greece etc have all failed to learn - you leave Turks on your land - it is effectively handing over the land to them.

              • I'm not sure if the US fully backs Turkey here. To a certain degree, they have a separate interest in Libya, which is why Trump has asked Erdogan to de-escalate at a time when Turkey had the LNA on the ropes. Haftar too was a CIA man, while the Russians actually back Ghaddafi's son who is allied with Haftar, but what will happen if Haftar were to take the whole of Libya is not clear.

                • President Donald Trump, however, seems to favor Haftar, who has the backing of Russia, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt.
The White House said Trump warned Turkey about interfering in Libya’s civil war.

                  • Meh, they also warned Turkey about entering Syria... twice...

They are happy to see Libya Ottoman. Same with the EU. Occassionally you have to throw in a token call for deescalation - but you can be 100% Turkey has full EU/US/NATO and UN backing in both Syria and Libya.

                        • Sirte falls to the Turks just as Germany and Dora Bakoyannis wanted.

Haftar looks like he is done.

Turks are now de facto in charge of the eastern med.

                          • Egypt has sent Abrams Tanks and Helicopters to the border and apparently is going to be joining the fight on the side of the LNA.

Sirte seems to not have fallen even though social media was going wild yesterday and for all intents and purposes seems like the GNA sustained some very serious losses in today's fighting.

The way I see it is Egypt's proposal for resumption of peace talks was welcomed by most, but of course, Turkey rejected them and Sarraj instructed his fighters to keep fighting for Sirte and another Libyan town that I cannot remember the name of.

With Egypt now in the fold, Greece has no reason not to send some units into Libya. They can effectively make life sooooo much harder for Turkey to pump Libya up with more jihadis and would make the naval aspect of this whole thing a nightmare. Greek submarines and naval assets could turn this into an almost impossible fight for Turkey. Does Mitsotakis have the balls for that?

                            • Nope. Greece will not do anything that slows or damages Ottoman conquest. That is the rule since 1922.

                              • Italy helping the Turks in Libya where ever they can. They have agreed to rebuild Tripoli airport for the Turks. Even bringing a frigate as part of the Turkish convoy to bomb Sirte today.
