This region will never be Syrian again and the whole region has now become a chess board again.

Also there is a sense in the statement that Moscow thinks Israel deliberately created a complex stratagem near Latakia to purposely confuse the air defense. Moscow alleges Israel only warned Russia via a “hotline” one minute before the attack.

This did not give the IL-20 time to descend and land at Khmeimim, an air base where Russia has planes. Russia also says that the airstrikes were carried out over a French frigate stationed off the coast which fooled air defenses into thinking cruise missiles were being fired. It says Israel used the cover of the Russian plane as well.

Russian plane was apparently shot down by accident by a Syrian air defense system, which had mistook an Israeli F16.

Yes. Russia has reignited the war in one move.

Before Idlib was handed over the the Ottomans yesterday - the chess board was clear:

1/ Rebels jihadists were about to be destroyed - no point investing in them - war is already over. French, Israelis and others stated clearly the war is over.

2/ Turkey had lost billions in arming the jihadists and building massive defences in Idlib. They also have started teaching in Turkish in every school in Idlib next to arabic. All this effort of Ottomanisation was going to be in vain.

3/ SDF/Kurds were around the table with Assad to negotiate increased rights in the areas they controlled in return Assad would take control of their regions again.

Now that Russia has given Idlib to the Ottomans:

1/ Rebel jihadists have a massive base of operations (Idlib) no one on earth can attack them in. They can rebuild and start the war over again from there.

2/ Israel, NATO, UN and all the other nations know they can back the rebels again as they have a future - Idlib is de facto Turkish land. The war now can go anyway possible.

3 Syria has zero stability now. All the previous work is undone.

It is interesting to reflect - Russia - pre revolution - when it was a Empire and had a royal family was insanely pro Greek and anti Ottoman. Not only did they fund Greek rebels and actively destroy Ottoman armies (Catherine the Great) - they encouraged all christian parts of the Ottoman Empire to rise up and rebel since the 1700s.

Since Russia's revolution - Russia/Soviets have been the biggest enablers of Ottoman growth. They armed Attaturk against the Greeks in 1921. They were silent concerning the Istanbul Pogroms, invasion of Cyprus and Turkish encroachment in the Aegean and vs Armenia. Putin just literally gave the Ottomans 8000 square km of land to do with as the please in Idlib. This land will never be Syria again..

100% spot on. Whenever tells you there's a russian brotherhood, tell them what you've just said and see how they react.

Supposedly Turkey will hand over the territory back to Syria before the end of year. We will wait and see. Whatever the case, the so-called "moderates" supported by the West and Turkey claim not to trust the Russians. I don't see this deal panning out as suggested for that reason. Turkey won't be able to convince them to give up their arms and I too think the territory will remain in Turkish hands.

There's many experts who are predicting a Turkish invasion of Syria. Reasons behind, with the collapsing of the Turkish economy, the Turkish regime is now feeling trapped. Their best option would be to settle their differences with the west, pull out of Syria and stop hostilities with Greece. That said the regime then would show weakness to the west, and put a stop to the Ottoman rise. If they choose that path it would probably mean the end of the regime. Now I'm not hoping for a war, but if Turkey chooses the invasion of Syria, then that would spell the end of Turkey. One way or another, Greece will come out on top.

Technically, they already did invade and they have backed the jihadist rebels threatening to take over the country for the past five years. It's an interesting theory though.

I doubt that happens, at least in that way. I don't think the Turks trust the West at all, surely not enough to believe they can initiate launching a full-scale war against Syria with Western backing. Had Gulen cowardly held on to power behind the throne, with Erdogan forced into it to bear the brunt of any fallout, this might have happened. Gulen would have pulled whatever strings he had over his stay-behind network in Turkey as instructed by his neocon/globalist backers. Turkey may have been used as a pawn to force an international confrontation against Russia and push along the goal of the neocons/globalists for global dominance (which would require the defeat or capitulation of Russia).

If Turkey does get drawn in, it would be because of an incident that draws all the other major powers into a full scale war (a new World War) first. They would just follow along and it's hard to say which side they'll take if that were to happen: Russia or the West. Likewise it would be unclear where China would stand and potentially even the EU.

I think there is a real risk of World War. I think there are groups in Israel, US and UK intent on stirring problems and intent on escalating things. I don't think the Germans and French are a big part of these shenanigans. Recently we saw the head of German intelligence rebuff his own establishment on the migration madness facing Europe and I think they've grown very wary of the threat posed by further migration challenges that would then arise by such a war. Such a war would mean the political establishments of Europe would lose significant popular support. The average European doesn't want to go war over Syria. And it would usher into power the likes of Marie Le Pen, who would only need to argue against ramping up war efforts and protecting against uncontrolled migration to easily win the vote.

These forces in Israel, US and UK are more than happy to have Trump, Putin, Netanyahu, and Erdogan get mired into a crisis of World War proportions that they will then be forced to own and be faulted for having created, even though other cowardly groups (like the Trotskyite neocons) were the sinister forces that created the mess. More than anything, they would love to have Putin backed into a corner where his only recourse is to either give in or for Putin to become the new Hitler by launching a nuclear attack, a threat which would incinerate millions. Russia really doesn't have much other recourse and can only challenge the West militarily on the grounds of nuclear engagement. And he would be sided with Iranians, who in the event of a world war would be blown off the map by Israel or the Americans, with historians later arguing that Iran were like Nazis who intended to wipe Israel off the map. The same old neocon spiel.

We nearly saw something like this happen. There was a recent incident that saw 15 Russian service men die after Israel pulled a neat maneuver. It was a deliberate ploy to get the Russians to mistakenly attack the French, who Russia had initially thought had fired upon their men. This was another clever trick to force a confrontation with Russia, but so far the Russians have shown themselves to be cautious and patient, thus they have avoided a real calamity and what otherwise would have raised tensions to a fever pitch. These groups hide behind someone like Netanyahu, who is made responsible for actions he probably didn't fully sign off. I think he agreed to have an Israeli plane hide behind Russian cover, for protection, and hit Iranian targets, but I don't think he agreed to warn the Russians so late in the game and to create a situation where the French were made to seem like the offending party. So far it is Putin's steady hand that has prevented the total collapse of Syria, which would have created an even more dire migration situation facing Europe, and a boiling over of tensions that could escalate to the level of a hot world war. The truth is Putin is the anti-Hitler.

Turkey is looking to expand its presence in Syria by setting up "secure zones" east of the Euphrates river.

The country has already established secure zones in the northern town of Afrin, where its troops seized military control from Kurdish YPG forces. Turkey has since set up local systems of governance in the swathe of land under its control and protected by Turkish forces.

The YPG, which Ankara considers a terrorist organisation, also controls the Syrian region east of the Euphrates.

Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the plans in comments broadcast on Monday morning, Reuters reported.

"God willing, in the period ahead we will increase the number of secure zones in Syria, encompassing the east of the Euphrates," he said in a speech during a visit to New York, where world leaders have gathered for the UN General Assembly.

Erdogan has previously warned of further military operations against the YPG along the Syrian border and if necessary into northern Iraq, following Operation Euphrates Shield which targeted YPG fighters east of Afrin and Operation Olive Branch, targeting Afrin itself.

However an expanding Turkish operation where Kurdish forces are present risks a clash with troops of NATO ally the United States, which backs the Islamic State-fighting YPG forces.

Washington's coordination with YPG forces fighting IS in Syria has infuriated Ankara, which sees the Kurdish force as an extension of a militant group waging a decades-long insurgency in southeast Turkey.

Rights group Amnesty International last month accused Turkish forces of allowing Syrian armed groups to commit major rights abuses in Afrin, which Turkish armed forces "turned a blind eye" to.

"These violations include arbitrary detentions, enforced disappearances, and confiscation of property and looting to which Turkey's armed forces have turned a blind eye," Amnesty said.

Last week, Syrian regime ally Russia and rebel backer Turkey announced a deal to impose a demilitarised zone in rebel-held Idlib, potentially averting a full-scale regime assault on the northwestern province.

Good news as Turkey continues to do exactly what America doesn't want. I'd want to know how much more Erdogan has to do before the US finally says enough is enough and starts to distance itself. America has always be reactionary rather than proactive with its dealings in foreign policy. Which has led to major blunders. Does Turkey's continued actions make a schism inevitable?

Problem is - is that both the EU, US and beyond are happy for a Neo Ottoman Empire to establish itself. This includes all Western Media who were pleading with their readers that Erdogan must secure Idlib to stop a 'massacre.' Now that Russia has given Idlib to Turkey - I can only see further expansion east. These secure zones are now de facto Ottoman territory and their heavily fortified 'observation' towers - de fact Ottoman border posts.
