  • Hungary vs Greece UEFA Nations League

Not keen on Hungary as a people. Massive Skopian supporters and also Fallmerayer aficionados.

Imperative Tzavellas and Tziolis are out the team.

I watched Hungary play Australia just before the World Cup... what stood out to me was their speed, their quality is not great but the speed would catch Tziolis out and Tzavellas at left back could also be caught out so will see how this goes.

I hope we see Zeca and Kourbelis in midfield, and I think we will see Lazaros and Donis start, with hopefully Mitroglou up front. Bakakis at right back as his speed will help

Apparently Mitroglou might miss this match. Donis I believe will go up top. I'd rather he play on the wing. I dont know if we should make many changes. We should keep the same back 7 really. We haven't conceded. Bakakis should play but Torosidis might have a chance of starting.

You have to play a fresher and younger Bakakis over an older Torosidis who played 90 minutes just on Saturday.

Mitroglou is a massive loss but... you play our in form midfielders & wingers and we can create chances even if that means Koulouris is played at striker.

Alternativly, Pelkas and Lazaros on the wing with Donis upfront and Fortounis (or Mantalos) behind him

I'll try to tune in for this. Unless Tziolis starts, I'm watching.

We look so much better now with a proper 10. Fortounis doesn't miss a beat. He saw Mantalos make that great run and almost score, so he then made the same run to score his goal. He went far post while Mantalos had been denied at the near post.

Kourbelis, another ex-Asteras starlet, seems to be coming into his own finally. I always thought it was a matter of time before his development would outpace Samaris' and Maniatis' standing with Greece, the ex-Panionios men. He and Zeca are Greece's best options at DM, no doubt about it, but he still has work to do to improve.

Hopefully both can make moves abroad in the summer and continue to develop into quality players for Greece.

His mystique among Greeks who supported him has gone. Barely 90 fans in Greece want him to play this game:

Have to be winning games like this surely. They're horrible defensively, ok going forward. Also no fans, so that can only help. Just hope we can put together a 90 minute performance this time.

even in the otto era, difficult to win away in a hungary. looks like 2016 was a fake sample size of hungary's strength. losing at home, in the summer to the hockey players of finland is tragic for a proud hungary.

my take is that this match is a better barometer of greece than estonia. we'll see how some do individually and how the side does as a whole. if we get a draw, i'd be content. have to take care of business at home.

It's concerning Mitroglou and Karelis aren't available. The last time either was unavailable against Hungary we drew 0-0 and it was evident at that time we were missing a proper CF. Koulouris is at least in some form, but playing for Greece at this level is a different story. There's a lot more pressure and I don't think he will trouble the Hungarians much, if at all.

My guess is we might grab a goal off a set-piece with Sokratis or Manolas notching it in. Lazaros and Fortounis might be able to string something together too and appear to be the only other players we have who might be able to score. Maybe Bakakis or Torosidis can put a couple good crosses into the box, although Torosidis isn't getting up field enough to pose more of a threat with his crossing and he's no Holebas. It will be harder for Donis, Mantalos and Pelkas to have much influence in the team, but they definitely have enough quality to make things happen in the final third too, at least against teams like Hungary. It will take time before they can fully establish themselves, whereas Fortounis has been with Greece since Euro 2012; Lazaros since the 2014 WC.

As I easily predicted, Skibbe submits to Tzavellas. He is back in the 11. His team in Turkey is 15th out of 18 teams and only has 3 points this season. They have won one game, lost three.

The list of left backs who are better than him is astonishing. Xolebas, Tsimikas, Koutris, Lykogiannis - even Retsos..

we'll see how it plays out. besides the CM, i'll watch how wide lazaros/pelkas play (the wider, better for donis) and if they get central when the ball is on the other side of the pitch. fortounis has been dreadful, had a match to expect against estonia, let's see how he does today.

the CM? let's first see how high they play and how close to each other, let alone fortounis.

Is the stadium empty by accident or design?
