After his time at RM, he's lost his luster. It happens to all coaches, and he's no different--and as a result, players don't respond to him anymore. His man-managing skills were never great and they've only become worse with time.

I say if United are any lower than 4th by Christmas, he's gone.

If I were him, I'd make the jump to teaching a national team, one that he can mold into a defensive unit, and he can have way more time on his hands to do his homework, but it's not nearly as demanding as what he's used to. I think he's played out in the EPL.

If he does get sacked all I can see if PSG or Munich. He wont go to another PL club surely, not Real and definitely not Barca or any other LaLiga team.

Possibly Inter, they have potential and its nice project to get them back to where he left them off and challenge Juve and Napoli.

Mourinho aside, United's problem is they lack a truly top class player in the mold of Hazard.

Pogba is suppose to be that player for United, but Mourinho is not the coach to bring the best out of him. Pogba may have captained France to victory at the 2018 WC, but it was Mbappe who took France to a completely different level. No opposition team had an answer for the pace Mbappe had on the ball. Even at Juventus, it was Pirlo who took them to a completely different level, turning them into a championship winning team. No team had an answer for the way Pirlo orchestrated winning performances. Pogba has not proven himself as of yet to be a truly great player. He is no Cantona. He is not the guy to take United over the top, at least not yet.

There's one coach in my mind who could change that: Zidane. For Pogba to get to that next stage in his development as a player, he needs Zidane. And I think Zidane can attract other top players, like Varane and Perisic. Those are the kind of signings United need to make. Trade Sanchez + cash to Inter for Perisic. Offload Lindelof and Bailey, with options to buy back, to make room for Varane. These are the things United could have done and Mourinho certainly wanted, but Woodward is out for lunch and has been a general disaster for United. Even on Pogba, United would have been better served signing Bale for that kind of money.

When you pay that much for a player, you feel compelled to shoehorn him into your team regardless of whether he fits or not.

After the Chelsea debacle, Man U were incredibly stupid to hire Mou. I wouldn't let him in 100 yards of my club because he's not worth the anxiety. The press love it because he's a whiny entitled prick and always gives good copy, even when he walks out of press conferences.

I agree that Zidane would do more for top players who would respect him as not just a former player but one of the best ever. He can handle the egos because they'll be afraid he'll headbutt them if they fuck around.

I watched them against Burnley last night, and it was embarrassing. The scoreline was 2-0 but they can't dress up the fact that their transitions are slow as molasses and very predictable, much like the coach. Burnley were horrendously bad and should have lost 6-0 to a team of that pedigree and with those players.

Liverpool will fuck them silly while only in 2nd gear. It won't be pretty.

I think he's doing an alright job. Finishing 2nd last season was a good result. It's too early in this season to tell how it's gonna go.

I just think Mourinho no longer has the same level of respect from the players he previously had and his stock has fallen quite a bit with certain higher-ups who have tired of him; however, I do think he stays on until the end of the season because he does know how to get results, even if it isn't pretty. Worse comes to worse I think a caretaker would replace him, not someone like Zidane or Conte who would be too wary of the challenge.

The bigger problem is Pogba. He doesn't provide the sort of aura or presence that infects teammates with real belief. He has no unique/special quality to speak of. He's not an out of this planet, age-defying athlete like Ronaldo. He's not a freak of nature like Messi or Mbappe. He's more Beckham than Cantona.

I think Zidane is someone who could actually turn Pogba into a better player, similarly to what Lippi did for Zidane. Mourinho has the touch needed to turn some players into proper champions, but he can't translate that touch to Pogba. He couldn't do it with Balotelli either. He can't bond with them and I think it's due to a lack of maturity in the players.

In football, you need one player who brings a certain x-factor. Shevchenko believed that and I believe it. Even in other sports, there is one player who is especially important to a team's chances. Like hockey with goalies, American football with quarter-backs, baseball with pitchers, and basketball where it's nearly impossible to win a championship without having the very best player in the league. In many sports, one or two players with special qualities, often in very influential roles, determine the success of a team. And in football it's generally a midfield marshal who plays in pockets where he can pull strings and/or it's an attacker usually starting from outwide who scores the goals himself rather than setting them up. These are the key players for any team that wants to see any degree of success. Pogba is certainly the former, but he's not special enough to put himself in the same league as Ronaldo, Messi, Mbappe, Kante, etc. All of those players have really special qualities; Pogba does not, but he's very talented nonetheless.

Even so, I think in the summer United will eventually move to sell him. And I expect Zidane, Pogba, Hazard, and Mbappe to eventually make their way over to Real, probably this summer, with Bale and Kroos heading over to United to facilitate the move. I expect United to sign another proven EPL manager in place of Mourinho, probably Pochettino.
