Saw that article on Twitter and of course its from the UK's CNN equivelant, BBC.
The article has received a ton of heat and contested reaction on twitter, and the Greek foreign ministry has also come out against it (like it matters).
I'm not hailing Mitsotakis as a savior, because I don't think any of these Greek politicians can undo the bad that's been done, but he did say if you sign the prespes deal, it will open pandoras box.
What do you know? International news organizations publishing articles regarding a slavo-macedonian minority in Greek macedonia, who would have thunk it.
At the end of the day, Tsipras knew this would happen, and this is just going along with the plan.
He's gearing up for early elections by saying he wants to hire more civil servants, while kicking priests off the the states payroll. Isn't that how we ended up in the crisis anyways?
The guy is a cancer and needs to be eradicated.

Absolutely ridiculous. It's an uneasy truth that there is a small group of Slavic-speaking folks in northern Greece who do not identify as ethnic Greeks; however, any recognition that these folks are "ethnic Macedonians" with a "Macedonian language" is absolutely ridiculous and incorrect.Comment

The ambassador should have made more of a point concerning the threat posed by communists, the very forces that had gone to civil war after WWII and whom this so-called minority identified with. Metaxas, a fascist, managed to stave off a civil war due to his oppression of a lot of people, Greeks or otherwise, all in the name of defeating these very forces. He died in '41 and with him his oppression of these forces ended while they filled the vacuum left by the Nazis losing their occupation of Greece.As regards the issue of language, the Agreement refers (Art. 1, par. 3(c)) to the “Macedonian language” in a very specific way: i.e. exclusively as the official language of North Macedonia. Moreover, it explicitly clarifies (Art. 7, par. 4) that it falls within the group of South Slavic languages and, most importantly, that it is not related to the history, culture, and heritage of Greek Macedonia, from antiquity to-date.
As regards the fallacious presumption that there is an implicit recognition of “Macedonian ethnicity" supposedly emanating from the Prespa Agreement, allow me to point out a very basic principle of international law: states recognize states, not ethnic groups. The ethnicity of citizens, cannot be determined by inter-state agreements. Hence, Greece retains the right to refer to the citizens that comprise the ethnic majority in our neighbouring country with the terms used to-date, whereas they retain the right to self-identification.

The various allegations in the article seem to echo the views of “Ouranio Toxo”, the only political party that claims to represent a so-called “Macedonian minority”. Let me add that in all national or European elections in which it participated, the electoral support this party received was always minimal, while it has always run as part of multi-party coalitions.
Is there a bigger game afoot in the Northern half of Greece? I don't think we'll see civil war like in '46 nor do I think something akin to what happened in Cyprus with the Turkish occupation of a third of the island. But should Russia and the Western powers reheat their Cold War, we may find ourselves back in these disasters soon enough.
Long term, I do see threats to Greece's sovereignty and this Macedonian naming issue will help to drive that threat. This rename has done nothing to resolve our issues, it created the illusion of solving the naming issue only so Russia could be further isolated by the Western powers. Our economic straits have left us in too weak a position to command a stronger stance on almost any matter of regional consequence. The leadership in our country is given to Marxist/Platonic ideals and willingly hands over our hard fought nationhood, after 400 years under Ottoman rule, away for the dream of a European Union that will go the way of the Soviet Union if it ever gets the chance. Types like Tsipras lack conviction in the concept of nationhood. They'd willingly trade Greece in for a place at a table in Brussels, joining seat with Avraampoulos. The distinct possibilities our country falls under military occupation by Western, Slavic or Turkish force; falls under the status of a fief in an EU (as already appears to be the case); or simply be split apart, are not illusionary. Failure to take such threats seriously may lead us to one day find the loss of our heritage and base (our land) from which it all originated.Comment

Speaking to Greeks in Greece this month, the majority- young people, old people, business owners etc - actually believe the CIA forced Tsipras to this make this deal behind closed doors..
When I explain Tsipras openly stated he wants Skopians to succeed and is simply rewarding his communist granparents' allies, they look very depressed and suddenly have nothing more to add.Comment

Tsipras sold out Macedonia because of his beliefs, not because of the EU or USA. I will admit though that these two entities likely aided in it, but never forced the decision.
But, Greeks in greece are beyond gullible and none of them want to own up to the fact that they voted in a guy who has aided in the destruction of Greece. He bowed down during the EU debt issue, he held a referendum and ignored the result, he sold out Macedonia for nothing, and his policies continue to make Greece a depressed economic country that no one wants to invest in.
Greece needs a legitimate capitalist/nationalist in charge that believes in competition in the marketplace, and standing strong for Greece's national causes/borders/ethnic issues.Comment

Zoran Zaev has accepted a snap election to be held in October of 2020, which is far away right now.
It's entirely possible that he gets ousted and an anti-prespa agreement party comes to the forefrunt. IMO, there's no way the powers that be in the EU and US will allow for the prespa agreement to become null and void.Comment
