Erdogan has Turkey on the brink of economic collapse - how this relates to Greece, we'll find out

  • #2
The balls on that guy lol!

The only reason Turkey matters is because of Russia. The mass of Middle Eastern nomads are indeed a concern in the event Turkey were to collapse into a mess like Venezuela has, but Turkey would not have the aggrandized notion of their world standing if the West didn't play into it for the sake of their opposition to Russia.

Russia and Turkey have a lot of common and their leadership are joint in the fact that both have essentially invaded and have occupied areas. Afrin for Turkey - Crimea for Russia, now although the dynamic is a bit different, I'd like to see how far Putin is going to take this relationship with the Turks, because as you said, if it weren't for the Turks, Erdogan would have no hand to play, other than the migrants flooding Europe.

Love how the left-wing media is trying to convince everyone if Turkey suffers financially - so will the rest of the world..

Turkey could trigger some economic downturn, specifically for the EU, but in terms of a world wide financial collapse, I can't see it.

First time in a long time, I actually think the US has to some degree altered its stance towards Turkey and has actually started to hold it accountable. The slew of issues open, Brunson, Iran sanctions, ISIS, Syia, are some really big issues that the US can't ignore. Pair that with the russian relationship and its hard not to say that there won't be some conflict going forward. This plays into russia's hands which at this point is probably using Turkey as a ploy to further disintegrate NATO.

But if Brunson isn't freed, and he won't be because this is a "who has the biggest balls" competition between Erdogan and Trump, then US should and probably will up the stakes and further its economic beating on the lira

Brunson will eventually be freed and Erdogan will try to save face by claiming the courts are independent. It's just a matter of time.

I agree but I wonder when because this hostage situation has literally no positives aside from angering a behemoth that can destroy your economy. Anyone who believes the turkish judiciary is independent is absolutely numb skulled. Everyone decision by the judiciary is made by Erdogan, especially in these high profile situaitons

The safety net for Turkey has gone. They will never have the same respect they had previously. Syria has been their Stalingrad. They are up to their necks in jihadist support and they world knows it. As each day passes, less people respect Attaturk's fabricated secular legacy too.

Looks like we are going to ask the EU for help and we all know nothing will happen.

Telling teacher you are being bullied never works. Shooting down foreign military planes that illegally violate your borders does.

They'll never do it unfortunately, with fear that it would give Turkey pretext to grab some islands in the Aegean. Unfortunately, Greece has lagged behind in the arms race, not only does Turkey have a bigger population, but their military has procured more equipment and the hellenic armed forces has essentially done little due to the economic crisis.

Greece needs to figure out how to transform its armed forces into a small, but incredibly specialized fighting force, while also trying to boost homegrown military production, which has fallen to the wayside during the economic crisis.

We may never be bigger than Turkey, but we need to outdo them in the political arena (which we have sorely lost) and also out think them in terms of arm's production. Greece has a bunch of younger workers who are unemployed, but are mentally and physically gifted and can be of great use to launching Greece into a better future of arms production.

The sultan has done 5 rallies over the weekend and has also shown the new zealand attack to further establish a hatred for christianity and all of the west.

Erdogan doesn't give a rats ass about the people who died, but he knows how to play the crowd and will likely get votes as a result. He also mentioned in Smyrni the throwing of "non-muslims" into the ocean, referencing the catastrophic asian minor campaign.
