China needs to be reprimanded by the world community and although I don't thin it'll happen, all countries across the world should show the middle finger to China and pull production out of China.

There should be US law now that mandates all essential items in the case of a health crisis or military crisis, ought to be produced in America.

The world needs to punish China for how its handled this mess, and how it continues to operate. Blaming the US for this is absolute horseshit and I think Trump is going to hold China to task for this. The economic boasting he used to do cannot be brought up anymore. All gains since 2017 have been lost in the stock market, so Trump will not be happy.

The rest of world is debating whether to follow in China's footsteps.

      https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitic...-intel-hearing

The public health chief's alarming remarks raised eyebrows among lawmakers in the emergency session. When pressed on what the "halt to personal freedoms" would entail, she emphasized that going beyond a mere curfew was needed - in short a total lockdown on a national level. Haaretz reports:
Sadetsy and Moshe Bar Siman Tov, the Health Ministry’s director general, tried to persuade committee members to give the Shin Bet the go-ahead to use “special technological means” to detect where people diagnosed with the disease had been and the people they were exposed to while they were contagious, and to isolate them.

Consider too this shocking exchange between an Israeli lawmaker and health services chief Sadetsky, where the latter essentially concedes that the state needs to be given totalitarian powers like China in order to combat the pandemic:
Ashkenazi then asked: “When did they start it, and how effective was it?”

Sadetsky: “It’s about when you start and how strenuously you apply it, because the fact that it was all collapsing there … there was no doubt about it. Everyone will do the same. How do we see it? They will do it after the collapse and then they will…”

She was interrupted by Kish: “Lockdown?”

Sadetsky: “A lockdown, while personally monitoring people and placing a total suspension on individual freedom.”

MK Yair Lapid (Kahol Lavan) tried several times to point out that China is not a democratic country and, therefore, its situation is different to Israel’s. The health officials did not respond directly, but reiterated that both the timing and strength of the response were critical, and therefore there was scope to approve the extreme measures.

Ashkenazi noted that the extraordinary measures they were requesting would affect a great many people, because they wouldn’t only be applied to those infected but also those who were in their proximity. Bar Siman Tov confirmed this.

Of course you could ask people to stay home and act sensibly, but when you have authority it's like having a hammer and every problem looks like a nail. It's a shame the authoritarians keep pushing us down this road. And in the end, the result will not necessarily mean we are safer. We can't exactly put the virus back in pandora's box. That chance was missed by China's 'wonderful" dictatorship that seemed too busy trying to deny the virus was spreading and pretending that they had it under control, when they could have been more honest, asked for outside help and maybe help prevent the rapid spread of the disease globally so that other countries could have grasped the threat sooner too.

Remember that super video by VOX labelled 'Why do viruses keep coming from China?'

They have now changed the name of the video to: 'How wildlife trade is linked to coronavirus'

The comment section is full of people asking why VOX changed the title. The reason they did is like most Western media, they are in protect China mode. The video and its title simply didn't tally with their recent output:

Both of the following can be and are true:

            1. China covered up the extent and severity of the coronavirus, improperly muzzling whistleblowers within their healthcare system. They can and should be held accountable when this all blows over. They should also absolutely close down those filthy marketplaces where they sell anything under the sun.

            2. Trump bungled his response to COVID-19. We know he disbanded the NSC pandemic response team in 2018. We know he said 15 cases would shortly become 0 cases and that the virus would go away like a miracle. We know he refused to do testing initially because he wanted to keep the numbers low and not hurt the economy. We know he repeatedly ignored warnings from the intelligence community. The US government knew about this; why else would two sitting US senators (one of which was the chair of the IC community) sell off all of their stocks?

The whole "China-virus" thing is stupid. Yeah, it's immature and retarded for conservatives to consistently call it by that name. The designated name for the virus is COVID-19. But the media (and lay people) should focus more on the US administration's inept response to this pandemic.

Thing is that would apply well to a nation like Georgia or Estonia I think, not the US. The US is the global policeman whether its decisions are correct or not - whether US citizens want it or not. Therefore the US media must not try to shield China because the health of the world is at stake.

So, as a non American I want the US to close China's wet markets and talk about China spawning Swine flu, H7N9, Sars and Corona as much as possible. I dont want the left to continue shielding China. I dont want the left to race bait Trump over Chinese Americans. I want the left to concentrate fully on allowing the blame to fall on China and to stop doing the CCP's propaganda for free.

Separately the left can talk about the US response and question whether it is enough ad infintum - got no problem with that. Also they are free to hate Trump all they want.

However the minute the US left tries to conflate shielding China in anyway with anti Trumpism - they are making the world less safe. The US is the only nation with the power to drag China into the 21st century and shield the world from China's wet markets. The left - not just in the US but globally - must not be allowed to let China off the hook for this like they did with Sars/ Swine flu/ H7N9 - regardless of what their domestic politicians are doing.

China have blamed the outbreak on the US. It is absurd that the left are trying to gag the president using the world 'Chinese' in association withis pandemic.

Yes Trump made mistakes, but what of it? Realistically, the spread of the virus can only be delayed, not stopped, and the media is yet again picking sides (I think we all know which side of the political spectrum they want in power--and it's not Bernie, it's not Trump) to suggest the president botched it completely, but that's not the case.

None of us have any reason to be panicked, we simply need to practice caution and wait until we have more resources in place. Hopefully by the time any of us get infected (should that happen) we can get proper treatment (likely better than what is available now) and avoid the worse effects of the virus.

I don't think things are bad here. In Italy they are bad, worse than China even, now that they have highest the death total (almost 5,000). I don't believe things will get to be as out of hand here.

What convinces you arose from the Chinese market place? That's just the best guess. China says the virus came to their country because a US soldier was infected with it, and that this solider than infected Chinese people. That's why Trump started calling it the Chinese virus, as an easy reminder to the public that it originated in China despite Communist Chinese denials. So it's not stupid to make this point when China is shifting blame to the US. And the president made that point exactly.

This will likely get much, much worse in the USA over the coming days. Trump put us on Italy's path rather than SK's path due to his poor decisions, as I've outlined above.

There is no substantive counter argument to many of my points. While you guys are playing victim about the liberal media, just remember the pathetic shit show that is fox news: https://twitter.com/brianklaas/statu...342917633?s=19

Anybody who drinks the Fox/Trump kool-aid lacks a certain degree of critical thinking.

Really, people here drink the Kool-aid on Fox? Is that why I wrote this back in February:

I'm not sure if the current containment efforts are enough and we may need to restrict travel at some point to and from areas that have been hit hard. At the same time, I don't see a need to panic either.
Meanwhile, you're the only one here convinced that president has done the worst job possible. There's nothing to suggest the US response is any weaker than the response in Germany or France. Yes, more could have been done to better deal with this crisis, but even so we'll still turn the page even as we grapple with more and more cases and eventually we will see numbers drop without having to take drastic measures. *South Korea is certainly a model and has managed to do really well without having to place excessive restrictions.* But that *depends* if you ninnies keep throwing fits.* Some governors and mayors may feel they're not doing enough and with mounting pressure they may feel to overreact, something I'd rather not have to do unless numbers really do surge a lot.

And let's make something clear. China lied. They lied in claiming there was no human-to-human transmission. They lied about the severity of what was happening in their country because they downplayed it. So how can the rest of world be faulted for underestimating the virus?

You talk about drinking the Kool-aid. What do you call what VOX did by changing the title of their video from "Why do viruses keep coming from China?'" to "How wildlife trade is linked to coronavirus"?

What do you call NBA stars who have field days dissing the president, but shut their mouths when it comes to showing any kind of support for protesters in Hong Kong because China prohibits any criticism of their country? That's pathetic.

It seems to me that China gets to dictate headlines and what NBA players are not allowed to say, which would explain why you think it's immature and retarded to counter Chinese lies.

the media is fine with 'german' measles and 'lyme' disease, because evil white people (germans and citizens of lyme, ct.) are being 'shamed'.

what a ridiculous issue, an issue that is the tip of the iceberg. trump must be made to look bad, because more mexicans and central americans should walk across the u.s. southern border and other issues of diversity. that's what it's all about.

biden will get steamrolled in any future debate for repeating the predictable left-leaning mantra of trump's late january travel restrictions to china as xenophobic and racist. dr. fauci has publicly stated that trump's china travel restriction slowed the spread of the virus and bought critical time. apparently mr. biden's usa would be dealing with many more cases at this moment.

the virus was first identified on jan. 7, the first fatality was in china on jan. 11. the media is inferring that this virus was well-known in nov. of 2019 and that trump was playing his fiddle, ala nero and rome.

Great posts Aek66 and Reap, Good Lord I'm shaking my head with some of the posts. First of all, Trump didn't get rid of NSC pandemic team, it was folded, ironically enough by John Bolton, into another one within the NSA to streamline a bloated organization, which saw it swell to over 400 staff people during the Obama administration. Secondly, statements that Trump put us on the same trajectory as Italy is ludicrous, to say the least. He introduced the China travel ban early in Feb, I think Feb 2nd, that mitigated somewhat the spread and was attacked for it from Dems, with their usual tripe of xenophobia. Biden tweeted that, the same day Trump announced the ban and continued to do it as late as Mar 12, stating that the bans from Europe or any other part of the world doesn't work . I think that's was the last time we heard a peep from sleepy Joe in public, as the DNC is keeping him under wraps, perhaps he went off his meds , and is telling his aides he wants to visit Mandela in prison. But I digress, the fact that Trump is calling the covid virus the Chinese virus is just that, A VIRUS THAT ORIGINATED IN CHINA!!!!. And to the holier than though media, who call it a RACIST dog whistle , they are defending a RACIST nation that imprisons a MILLION people because of their religious beliefs and is threatening to cut off needed medicines to the US. Not a peep of that sort of stuff from MSNBC or CNN. Or the fact that when the Chinese knew that the virus was spreading from human to human interaction, to the time Trump announced his travel ban, there was some 500,000 Chinese nationals who came into airports on the west coast, Sea-Tac, SFO, LAX, which was the start and nexus of the virus in the United States.

I haven't drank any orange man kool-aid to put it bluntly. I disagreed with him on his bombing escapade in Syria in response to the Douma Attack or his assasination of the Iranian general that could've started another hot war in the middle east or some of his domestic policies, like the grotesque appropriation budgets he signed off on. And by the way, there's another guy who isn't a Trump cultist, who commented on the possible corona trajectory with Italy yestertday:

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said Sunday that the United States is “not necessarily” on the same trajectory as Italy, the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic in Europe.

                          Well written ^^

CNN and MSNBC are both a type of 5th column at the moment that the USSR could have only dreamed of setting up in the US during the cold war. I mean in the UK 1000s of senior officials have been openly bought by the CCP - that is why the UK allowed Huawei to handle large parts of our 5G. The press went ballistic but senior UK lobbyists bought by the CCP pushed hard until they got what they want. The amount of heavy lifting CNN and MSNBC are doing for the CCP at the moment is epic and more pathetic than anything, I suspect they are doing it for free! I mean this by the NYTimes - this is pure CCP propaganda..

I will quickly post a few articles to show the weight of Chinese lobbying in the UK - at least the Chinese pay for their propaganda in Europe unlike in the US.. Like in the cold war, the UK has been completely infiltrated:

As for Corona - right until Feb the Chinese were encouraging the spread:

                            LoneHorseman, you are phenomenal.

I'm no longer a Trump supporter myself, but the media paints him in the same way they painted Saddam Hussein, Muammar Ghaddafi, Bashar al-Assad... as purely evil caricatures. Everything he represents is racist. And you and aek66 cite the perfect example, Trump's decision to place travel restrictions on China has proven to be the right decision. And all we hear, ad nauseum, is how racist that was. We've said this now for ages, the identity politics of the left is killing Democratic party. The president of the United States isn't a guidance counselor. And I wish Biden did more to win people like us over rather than pander along to this nonsense.

And to mr. Soprano who thinks only the Republicans and Trump are blocking bills:

                              https://www.washingtonpost.com/us-po...omic-stimulus/

Democratic concerns have focused on a $500 billion funding program for loans and loan guarantees that Republicans want to create, which some Democrats are labeling a “slush fund” because the Treasury Department would have broad discretion over who receives the money. There is little precedent for a program with a similar size and scope.

The bill also contains provisions to send $1,200 checks to many Americans and make $350 billion available to small businesses as they struggle to stay afloat with many workers and consumers confined to their homes to avoid contracting or spreading the coronavirus.
TARP anyone? This is another bailout program, but at least the man on the street gets something this time. And at least Trump is honest and gets those concerns:

“I don’t want to give a bailout to a company and then have somebody go out and use that money to buy back stock in the company and raise the price and then get a bonus,” Trump said Sunday at the White House. “So I may be Republican, but I don’t like that. I want them to use the money for the workers.”
I don't think the bill will change, but a lot will need to be done to make sure the Treasury Department do things right!

But to be clear, this would have passed if some Republicans didn't self-isolate or catch coronavirus, like Senator Paul had, but once they had to sit it out, suddenly the Democrats decided to block this bill. They don't want the Republicans to score a win and the Democrats want to look like they did something for their party. This is pure optics.

“Setting up the potential to rattle the markets until noon, all because he’s been unwilling to reach an agreement that his rank-and-file members and ours had pretty much reached before he and the speaker stepped in at the last minute and blew the deal up," McConnell said. "Now maybe there’ll be some miraculous coming together tonight, I hope so. If not we will now be voting at noon rather than 9:45.”
Now it's McConnell turn to hit Schumer on the head for fun. Who needs WWE?

Democrats are pushing for more fuel standards on airplanes and more tax credits for solar panels. It's the same old bullshit games that typifies Washington and explains why Congress continues to hold low ratings.

As far as a I can, they both play these games, but some would like to believe only one party maintains more integrity. That's what the Brits call "having a laugh."

The New York Times changed their headline story three times so that it read more favorably towards Democrats:
